If You Want to Catch Some Big Fish, Visit These Ponds and Lakes Around Southern Illinois. By: Caleb Smith
First of all, there are many ponds and lakes to fish around Southern Illinois. For example, the Salem Reservoir poses a perfect location to fish. It includes bass, catfish, blue gill, crappie and many other species. Another great location is Rend Lake. Rend Lake is mostly known for its large amount of crappie. Also, Carlyle Lake is a great place to catch white bass.

These areas are extremely accessible. For example, the Salem Reservoir has specially made areas where you can park right next to the lake, also, you can use boats on the Reservoir. Rend Lake has some areas good for bank fishermen. However, it is mostly accessible by boat. Carlyle Lake is also a great place for bank fishermen. It is easily accessible because of the close parking to the lake, and there is no traffic in the marina. It is very easy to pull a boat in the parking lot because the lanes are specially made to be wider.

Another thing that is very important to me is the time it takes to get there. This is not an issue with the lakes I have mentioned. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the Reservoir from my house; I live about 20 minutes north of Salem. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Rend Lake and Carlyle from Salem.

I get a lot of enjoyment from fishing, especially when the spots I am fishing are close to home. These lakes pose as a great location for skiing, tubing, and just hanging out. These lakes are very clean and have nice facilities. For example their boat docks are very clean, and their tackle and registration shop is very well kept.

In conclusion, these lakes are very accessible, fun, and clean. They pose as great locations for a family to spend a day. I hope you can go visit them sometime; you will not be disappointed.
