The Secret Pathway Under Salem, Illinois By: Emma Thompson

The secret pathway is a historical place under Country Creek Treasures,  which is a place with a lot of decor and tea for you to try or buy, and it leads to the Courthouse. Not many people have heard of it because it is not a tour. Also no one has been in it for about 100 years.

The beginning of the tunnel is at Country Creek Treasures. Their address is 115 E. Main St. Salem, Illinois. The place is like an entire mall in a singular store. It is an unique place in a tiny town.

The tunnel leads to the courthouse. Their address is 101 E. Main St. Salem, Illinois. It is unusual for a tunnel to go under that area because it is under the main road and it leads to the county courthouse. But no one knows if there are more tunnels or how long the full length of the tunnel is.

The tunnel was part of the Underground Railroad and it helped the slaves get food and water that they needed to survive. I was told this by the owner of Country Creek Treasures. It is remarkable that not that many people know about it, especially for how much this town knows about it’s history. With plenty of mystery, it’s a wonderful place to learn about history.

No one knows it’s conditions, but I am sure someone will figure it out. Especially if there are more tunnels. It is worth it to check the mystery of this town- it is absolutely astounding on what the history is.

This town has its secrets, but if you want to be part of discovering those mysterious unknown secrets! I hope the secret pathway is worth a visit! Just be sure to come so you can find out what history is like, in person and not just from a book
