Dairy Mart In Salem, Illinois May Just Be the Best Place for Fun and Food In The Summer!- Skyler McElroy

 Look for a place to get a snack? Well Dairy Mart may be the place for you! They have food and everyone’s favorite treat to get in the summer… ice cream! Dairy Mart is one of the smaller but amazing places to visit if you happen to be in this area.

As assumed by the name, and as said earlier, ice cream is their specialty. And we all know, when looking for a place for a quick snack, you can never go wrong with a cone! One could say that it is absolutely taste-tactic! They have many varieties. Anything there could easily suit your needs and satisfy your taste buds. They have many flavors including the usual vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, and their most famous flavor… lemon! Just like a real lemon, it consists of sourness and sweetness making it a popular and delicious choice.

Ice cream is not the only dish you can eat there. They have many basic and tasteful dishes including cheeseburgers and candy bars, not only bars but also just candy. Who wouldn’t want a good piece of candy every once in a while? By the way, may I ask a question? Can you name me one restaurant that sells pickle sickles? I got one for you, Dairy Mart! They are so original! I’ve never seen a restaurant with pickle sickles before this one. A pickle sickle is a small cup of pickle juice frozen, hence being called pickle sickles. 


I’ve personally only been in this restaurant about 2 times, and it was amazing. It is truly a memorable experience and place. It is old fashioned, and genuinely looks like an old diner. With the black and white tiled floors, sleek stools and chairs, and the bathrooms, they are such a great combination.

It may not be healthy right now, but before the time of masks, we were able to participate in many activities. They have mini golf, which is very fun to do, and some of the courses are challenging. For example, they have one with a loopty loop, and one with a swinging log that is low enough to hit or completely stop your golf ball. With golf, they have putter golf clubs in many sizes and colors, along with the golf balls which have many colors too! The main thing is golfing, however there are benches too. It is a nice place to socialize in the sun.

It is a fairly small place that is easy to locate. However, if you would like an address, it is 1711 East Main Street, Salem, Illinois. Its recognizable sign is a simple way to locate it if you are in the area.


Dairy Mart is clearly a great place, so why not visit and perhaps give it a taste? Whether it be a quick n’ easy cone or an actual meal, everything will suit the tone, whatever suits your feel!
